Lore
The female mage clan of Zann Esu is one of the oldest of the ancient clans, although little is actually known about them. Centuries ago, the fourteen powerful covens of Esu witches convened for the first time in generations. What they discussed is not known, but the witches left behind their former lives and, as a group, disappeared into the Eastern Jungles.
The exact location of their community is a mystery. Until recently, their only contact with the outside world occurred during the recruitment missions. Once every seven years, the Zann Esu visited certain families across Sanctuary. These families had one thing in common -- they each had a seven-year old daugther. Always good-natured and polite, the Zann Esu visitors would meet the girls, ask a few questions, and then leave. A select few of the girls were visited a second time and offered apprenticeships. The families of those chosen enjoyed good fortune for many years after.
The Zann Esu, or Sorceresses as they are generally known, are on a quest for purity, the pursuit of the perfect magic. They feel the other disciplines of magic are haphazard, and have instead chosen to focus strictly upon elemental magic. They mold the base elements into whatever magical forms they need -- threatening all other magic disciplines with obsolescence. In order to achieve perfection in these elemental transmutations, they choose only those daughters of Sanctuary with the highest level of attunement to the magical elements.
The Sorceresses believe that it is through the search for perfection that they will attain ultimate purity and ascend to their destined role as the most powerful mages in Sanctuary. For centuries they have studied in secret, perfecting their art and bidding their time until the Emergence of Evil. Then, they will face their greatest challenge, either proving the purity of their magic or fading from existence.
The Zann Esu oracles have decreed that the time of the Emergence is at hand. The destruction of the Prime Evils is to be the great test of their clan. Recently, Sorceresses have appeared mysteriously throughout Sanctuary to do battle with the minions of evil wherever they are found.
Traits and Abilities
Athletic, affable, and self-assured. Sorceresses hardly seem like scholarly bookworms hidden away from civilization. Sorceresses possess many of the same skills as the male members of the Eastern mage clans, but excel at the use of elemental magic. Like most mages, they consider melee combat vulgar and use magic almost exclusively to fight their enemies.
Skills
Fire Spells
- For the main entry, see Fire Spells
- This tree includes the powerful Meteor and Fireball skills. Warmth, which increases a player's Mana Regeneration is also an important skill. Other lesser seen skills include Hydra and Firewall.
Lightning Spells
- For the main entry, see Lightning Spells
- In the past Nova used to be a oft used and powerful skill, though recently it has suffered. More powerful skills include Lightning, Chain Lightning, and even Charged Bolt. The most popular and sought after skill in the game is located in this tree as well, Teleport.
Cold Spells
- For the main entry, see Cold Spells
- Frozen Orb and Blizzard are the skills of choice from this tree. Also useful are the Frozen Armor or Shiver Armor skills which increases a player's defense and either freezes the attacker, or chills them.
Builds
Fireball and Meteor
- For the main entry, see Fireballer
- A pure Fire-Based Sorceress. Utilizes Fireball with maxed synergies of Firebolt, Meteor, and Fire Mastery.
Meteor, Fireball, and Orb
- For the main entry, see Meteor Orb
- Popular and powerful build. When built correctly, and utilizing a proper mercenary can solo anywhere in the game. Utilizes Fireball, Meteor, Frozen Orb along with synergies of Firebolt and/or Fire Mastery. Also useful is Cold Mastery.
Blizzard
- For the main entry, see Blizzard
- Using a properly synergized Blizzard this sorceress is often the choice for boss killers. Maxing skills such as [[Ice Blast][] and Glacial Spike along with Cold Mastery to freeze, chill, or destroy anything that comes across her path.
Orb
- For the main entry, see Orber
- Frozen Orb synergized with Ice Bolt and Cold Mastery is the staple of this build. Sometimes Thunderstorm is mixed in to offer a second source of elemental damage.
Lightning
- For the main entry, see Lighter
- This type of Sorceress relies on the powerful Lightning Skills to unleash powerful bolts to fry and zap her enemies. Lightning and Chain Lightning are the main skills, followed by Charged Bolt and sometimes Thunder Storm. This build shines when coupled with a mercenary that utilizes Infinity. Or in some cases, the Sorceress herself equips an Infinity.
TriSorc
- For the main entry, see Triple Element Sorceress
- This type of Sorceress utilizes a fine balance of each of the 3 elemental types to lay waste to any opposition. MaxingFrozen orb, Lightning and Firewall is essential as they will be her primary skills. Static Field and Thunder Storm, are excellent sources of auxillery damage, but do not focus more than 1 or 2 points into each. At least six points should be put into Cold Mastery. This amount should be matched with Fire Mastery and Lightning Mastery until you have maxed out your primary skills. After that, spread your remaining skill points into Fire Mastery and Lightning Mastery. This build relies heavily upon gear that gives +X to all skills or +X to sorceress skill levels. Annihilus and at the very least, a Hellfire Torch with +3 to Sorceress Skill Levels, are a must for this character to be truly effective. An even spread of sorceress skill charms will also be very useful. A mercenary may be useful in helping you take down foes with multiple immunities and/or high resistences. The TriSorc is better suited for Player Versus Monster combat than a Sorceress who has focused primarily on one elemental type. The drawback of this is that her damage will be limited and direct combat with other players will be more difficult, though not impossible.
